how to build a rocket 101
what we do
The Structures subsection comprises of many disciplines and skills ranging from manufacturing to materials science. We are in charge of constructing and designing the team's rockets. This includes competition rockets as well as learning-based rockets known as exercise missions, which are built by our team members to get their NAR (National Association of Rocketry) Level 1 and Level 2 HPR Certifications. Although rockets are our main area of focus, we have many projects that play a role in rocketry infrastructures, such as static rigs, launch rails, and remote stations.
how we do it
Structures mainly deals with CAD, performance analysis, and building. Each rocket has either a purpose or a certain performance requirement to be met. It's our job to take those into count and create the most optimal design. It starts by culminating ideas into one design and modeling it for a visual representation, often in OpenRocket and Fusion360. Then we inspect our design decisions through software analysis and simulations, and rigorous testing. Constructing the actual rocket is the final step that requires patience and precision.
We've obtained our skills and knowledge through hands-on learning. If you lack experience we ensure that you'll have the opportunity to get it. In our opinion, Structures is the most important subsection, because you can't fly a rocket if you don't have one.
