PER ASPERA AD ASTRA

the inspiration

In April of 2019, USC's Rocket Propulsion Lab became the first undergraduate rocket team to launch a rocket that crossed the Von Kármán Line, 100 km above Earth's sea level. In doing so, they fulfilled a 15-year-long ambition to become the first university team to enter outer space.

Their rocket, the Traveller IV, stood at 13 feet tall and weighed 310 lbs, and was propelled by an R-class motor designed and created by the students.

a small college with big dreams

While Norco College Rocketry may be small, especially when compared to a team with the size and experience of USC's Rocket Propulsion Lab, they aren't afraid to set some big goals for themselves.

In the next 15 years, they hope to grow a team and be able to claim their own title: first community college to space.

There are many challenges for the team to overcome, such as building a rocket strong enough to make it to space, designing their own powerful solid rocket motor, and acquiring funding for such a large-scale project.

However, this is a long-term project, and each year the team hopes to be a better iteration of the team that came before them and slowly build up the experience they need to accomplish this goal.
